KAREN KRISTINE HALSTEAD

February 24, 1947 - February 21, 2026

The family of Karen Kristine Halstead announces her passing on February 21, 2026, after an eight-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Karen will be remembered by her husband Brian and son Jason, daughter-in-law Stacey Thidrickson, as well as numerous other family members and friends. Karen was predeceased by her mother and father, Edith and Jack Herbert, as well as her first husband, Gary White, birth father of Jason.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Karen worked at several jobs during her career. She worked at Success Business College and Rayovac in the1960s before moving to the Public Service Commission in the 1970s.
Karen married Brian Halstead in 1978 and moved to Portage la Prairie. There, Karen worked for the Portage School Division at both La Verendrye and Victoria schools. After retirement, Karen and Brian moved back to Winnipeg.
Over the years Karen was a woman of many passions including dogs, reading, quilting, needlepoint and thrifting. She did like a good bargain!
Brian and Jason would like to thank the staff at Charleswood Care Centre for their care of Karen over the past seven years. A special thank you to Nancy Wharran of Portage la Prairie whom Karen met while working in in the city, as well as to the "girls" from Victoria School for the visits and lunches even after Karen moved back to Winnipeg, post-retirement.
A private family service will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in Karen Halstead's name to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
